Kashima Antlers v Avispa –  Betting Preview

Kashima Antlers Summary

Kashima Antlers has had a reasonable start to the season so far, sitting on six points from a possible nine.

Their last league game was an impressive 3-1 win on the road against Yokohama, where they led 2-1 at the break in an exciting match. They went on to seal a win by an impressive 3-1 result.

That was the second match they have won by two goals in the league season, the first was a 0-2 win over Kyoto Sanga in the opening match of the 2023 campaign.

Sandwiched between these two victories, Kashima did suffer one loss and that was against Kawasaki who is right now, is a midtable side in the J-League.

The club start this round in 4th position but with games in hand of the two clubs which occupy 1st and 2nd place. This means that three points here at least puts them joint top of the division.

The aim is to win the match but they are aware Avispa is a difficult opponent. Indeed, a loss against them would see Avispa leapfrog them in the table.

Avispa Summary

Since losing against Kobe in the season opener, Avispa has bounced back admirably with back-to-back wins.

They begin this J-League round sitting level on points with the host Kashima and knowing that a victory sees them move above the opponent and possibly as high as joint first.

Since they lost the opening match against Kobe, that club went on to win both of their next matches and so their form looks solid overall. The current leader, Kobe is a club that finished one spot above them last season in the J-League.

Avispa has a largely domestic-based squad with just three foreigners, all offensive-minded Brazilians.

They come into this match with good confidence after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Kashima.
